Inverness's Academy Street is facing partial closure over nine days throughout October as gas network SGN carries out work on underground pipes.

The busy thoroughfare is initially facing partial closure from tomorrow Thursday October 5 until Sunday October 8.

Further partial closure will follow.

A warning sign has been erected saying that between 6.30pm and 11pm the road will be closed on Tuesday October 9, Wednesday October 10, Friday October 13, Monday October 16, Thursday October 19 and Friday October 20.

SGN spokesman Bradley Barlow said about this week's work: "We’ll need to temporarily close one lane of Academy Street from 2pm to 10pm each day while we carry out our work.

"The lane will be open when we are not working in the road.

"We hope to complete our connection on or before Sunday October 8."

Regarding the further partial closures he added: "In consultation with Highland Council, for everyone’s safety around our work area, we’ll need to temporarily close one lane of Academy Street in the direction from the railway station to the roundabout.

"A signed diversion will be in place for road users. The lane will be open when we are not working in the road.

"We will also need to return in the week beginning Monday 23 October to resurface the road.

"We’re sorry for any inconvenience our work may cause."
