A Dingwall man has been banned from driving for more than a year after being found under the influence on the A9 on Hogmanay.

Finlay Graham (22) previously admitted the drink driving charge when he appeared at Inverness Sheriff Court.

He was stopped by police on December 31 last year on the road near Duncanston on the Black Isle.

He was found to have 73 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath.

The legal limit is 22 micrograms.

Sentence had been deferred for background reports.

Sheriff Robert Frazer disqualified Graham, of Woodlands Road, from driving for 16 months.

He was also fined £600 with a £40 additional victim surcharge.

The sheriff said if Graham successfully completed the drink drivers rehabilitation course then he would be eligible to have his driving ban reduced to 12 months.
