DEMOLITION of the former Inverness Royal Academy building will begin on Monday, Highland Council has announced.

The building in Culduthel Road was mothballed this summer after construction on its replacement, located immediately next to it, was finished.

The demolition, which is being carried out by North Scotland Limited, Morrison Construction and specialist sub-contractors, is expected to be completed early in the New Year.

Removal of asbestos within the old building will be carried out during the work by specialists under controlled conditions. It will be removed from site in sealed containers.

Once demolished the former school site will make way for a school playground, school car parking and also form part of two new all-weather pitches.
