A DEER has been rescued in Cradlehall after it got stuck in a metal fence.

The animal was rescued by Scottish SPCA officers in Inverness on Wednesday after a woman spotted it wedged tight between two railings in Cradlehall Meadows.

Animal rescue officer, Clare Anderson, said: “A lady had spotted the deer running out of a field and straight into the fence. It is possible he may have taken fright as he ran into the gate with force and became stuck.

“When we got there I placed a towel over the deer’s head to calm him down and prevent stress whilst we attempted to free him.

“It took us around 20 minutes to get him out as we had to lift his body at an angle and move one hip through at a time.

“After checking he was not hurt, we released him into a wooded area where there is other deer.

“We are glad we were able to help him out as it must have been quite an uncomfortable experience. Luckily he was not injured and looked very relieved to be able to run around again.”

Anyone who discovers an injured or distressed animal should call the Scottish SPCA animal helpline on 03000 999 999.
