A MUCH-LOVED Black Isle woman whose 100th birthday was celebrated just a few weeks ago has passed away.

Annie Hannan (nee Grigor) was delighted to have received a birthday card from King Charles III on the occasion of reaching the landmark birthday on April 13.

Her family said in a notice shared through funeral director John Fraser & Son that she had died "very peacefully" in "the excellent care of the staff at Urray House Care Home, Muir of Ord" on April 29.

Ms Hannan was late of Dunvournie Farm and was the wife of the late John Hannan and mother of Grigor, Kathleen and the late Derek.

She was described as a much-loved grandma, great-grandma, aunt and mother-in-law.

She was born on April 13, 1923 and her parents Ken and Kate Grigor were farmers on the Black Isle at Cullicudden.

After attending school locally and then Dingwall Academy, she aspired to become a nurse. However, she returned to care for her mother, who fell ill. Annie went on to marry John Hannon at the age of 23, and together they had three children – Grigor, Katherine, and Derek.

She lived independently until the age of 99 and moved to Urray House last year.

She was well-known for her compassion and community spirit and had carried out voluntary work at a day care centre in Alness and at Raigmore Hospital.

When asked on the occasion of her 100th, she attributed her long life to hard work, being interested in people and a loving family.

Urray Care Home manager Joe Greiner said last month: "Annie's dedication to others is an inspiration to us all and we are privileged to have her as a cherished resident at Urray House."

Her funeral service will be on Friday, May 12 at 2pm in Ferintosh Free Church, thereafter to Urquhart New Cemetery.

A funeral notice shared by her family said all are welcome to attend and requests family flowers only.

Donations in memory of Annie for Urray House Care Home staff and Eilean Dubh Carers may be given at the service.

The funeral arrangements are being made by John Fraser & Son of Lovat House, Dingwall.
