Deadline extended for views on Inverness city centre plans

Highland Council has extended the online consultation into proposed improvements to Inverness city centre.
The local authority launched a six-week consultation period in conjunction with HiTrans on a number of developments which it claims will make Academy Street and the area surrounding the railway station a more pleasant place to live and work.
This has now been extended and the consultation will continue until February 1.
The council has also arranged a pubic engagement event at the Eastgate shopping centre this Friday (January 11) from 9.30am to 5pm.
Representatives from the local authority and HiTrans will be available to answer queries on the proposals, and images of the plans will be on display.
The proposed changes include the widening of pavements, a reduction in traffic speed and the installation of streetscape features to enhance the appearance of the city centre.
The plans were developed alongside stakeholders including bus companies and Inverness Business Improvement District.
Provost Helen Carmichael said: “This is hugely important project in our ambitious plans to regenerate the city centre.
“What a boost the city will get through the upgrade of the railway station and greatly improved links from Falcon Square, Academy Street and Farraline Park.
“I would urge the public to play their part by giving us their thoughts on the options we have presented.”
