WITH just weeks to go until Highlands and Islands Renewable Energy Day 2022, the deadline is fast approaching for entries to the Highlands and Islands Renewable Energy Awards.

Entrants have until May 20 to put their names forward for a chance of being named winner of one of the 10 awards which will be announced at the online ceremony on Thursday, June 23, which is hosted by broadcaster and Highland News and Media (HNM) columnist Nicky Marr.

The awards follow the Scottish Highlands and Islands Renewable Energy Conference (SHREC), which brings together specialists from the worlds of business, politics and academia to look at the challenges and opportunities the drive towards a net zero future will mean for our region.

Highlands and Islands Renewable Energy Day has once again been made possible by the partnership of Executive publisher HNM and leading law firm Harper Macleod LLP. HNM events development manager Lynn Gardner is looking forward to seeing more entries and more stories of success from a sector which is becoming increasingly important to the north economy.

“We are delighted to be continuing our partnership with Harper Macleod LLP on the Scottish Highlands and Islands Renewable Energy Awards,” Lynn said.

“Harper Macleod is a leading expert in this sector which is evident from its successful conference, SHREC, now in its 13th year.

“The awards, which will follow the conference on June 23, are all about rewarding the very best in the industry. Working with our sponsors on delivering the awards has been great, and I look forward to celebrating with them as we showcase the businesses and projects which are shining a light on the Highlands and Islands region, making us a world leader in renewables and the journey to net zero.”

To register an interest in entering the awards, attend the online event or find out about sponsorship opportunities, visit www.hnmedia.co.uk/renewable-energy-day

The awards begin at 6.30pm, but before then SHREC 2022 will see decision-makers from industry and politics discuss the part the Highlands and Islands is already playing in the move towards a more sustainable future, and what might lie ahead for an already world-leading sector.

Curated by Harper Macleod, SHREC 2022 takes the theme: The Time is Now.

Inspired in part by Glasgow hosting the UN climate crisis conference COP26 towards the end of last year, topics under discussion include a look back at the findings of COP26, how a just transition to a net zero economy can be achieved, and how well placed the Highlands and Islands are to deliver renewable energy solutions which can be exported to the rest of the world.

As with the awards, the conference will take place in a virtual format, meaning that geography will be no barrier to those who want to attend or contribute, but as with the traditional physical event, there will still be an opportunity to network with fellow virtual attendees before the main programme gets under way at noon.
