Parts of Inverness Castle are to be opened to the public for the first time since the building's transfer to Highland Council.

With the courts service currently due to move out of the building in March the building will be open as part of this year's Doors Open Days event in May.

Provost Helen Carmichael said: “I am delighted to confirm the dates for doors open days at Inverness Castle. These will take place over the May Day weekend, so on May 8, 9 and 10 the public will have an opportunity to come along and see inside the castle and find out about our exciting plans for its transformation into a first-class tourism attraction."

The dates are dependent on the council’s purchase of the south tower of the castle building from the Scottish Courts and Tribunals Service concluding as planned at the start of May.

Separately, Inverness Town House will also be opening to the public from 9am to 4pm on Saturday, March 7 to coincide with the Highland Car Club Snowman Rally which welcomes many visitors to the city.

This opening is in addition to the tours of the town house led by High Life Highland guides on Thursdays at 2pm and 3.30pm which can be booked by phoning 01349 781730 or online at https://uk.bookingbug.com/home/53210-Inverness-Town-House-Tours

Provost Carmichael added: “I would like to thank High Life Highland and its team of guides, who are helping the council create a cultural triangle of visitor attractions among the town house, the museum and art gallery, the Castle Viewpoint and Inverness Castle. Their support is invaluable.”
