YOUNG dancers were flying high last week as part of a fundraising challenge to host their first dance show.

Pupils from the Melanie McKay School of Highland Dancing took to Fyrish Monument near Alness to dance a Highland Fling surrounded by friends and family.

The dance was part of a campaign to raise enough money to stage the school’s first major show next year.

Dance school owner Melanie McKay (33) said it was a great spectacle for passers-by.

“We have done a few fundraisers for the show but this was a memorable day out with everyone who was able to be there,” she said.

“It was so nice that everyone came along to support us.

“I teach Highland dancing to about 30 girls and we want to put on our first show in January 2020.”

Ms McKay, who also teaches at North Kessock and Tore primary schools added: “Lots of the girls compete in competitions all over Scotland but so far we have not had an opportunity to put on a show – so it is very exciting.”

The school is planning to hold its show at Millburn Academy on January 18 and 19.
