An Inverness school worker has raised thousands of pounds for charity by holding a second 24-hour dance event.

Claire Fisher (38) took on the danceathon at the Florians Theatre to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

She decided to complete the challenge for a second time after the death of her father. Her mother is also battling cancer.

Donations have so far topped £3200.

Mrs Fisher was joined at the danceathon by 16 fellow fundraisers, who danced for periods of six, eight or 12 hours, as well as members of the public who came along to support her – with some even joining in the fun.

"It went really well," she said.

"It was a bit grim at times which is to be expected when you are on the go for 24 hours but it was a lot of fun.

"We are still taking donations. We have raised about £3200 so far which I am so happy about, and a couple of people are doing some more things in the next couple of weeks, so we could get up to the £4000 mark.

"We are so tired – in my family we have been a household of zombies because it was so tough – but it was definitely worth it."

Mrs Fisher is already planning a repeat of the event next year, and wants to make it even bigger and better to encourage more people to get involved.

"People are already asking if there is going to be another one next year," she said.

"We are going to do one, because there are so many people who are now wanting to get involved.

"We started with three people last year, expanded to 16 this year and now so many people are getting in touch.

"We want to make it even bigger next year and get as many people involved as possible."
