A couple taking part in this weekend's Strathpuffer – regarded as one of the toughest mountain bike endurance events in the world – took a short break to get married.

Steve Brown and Tracy Munro, from Inverness, were among more than 800 cyclists taking part in the annual 24-hour endurance race in Contin Forest near Strathpeffer.

During one of the laps, the couple paused to get married next to the race's mascot, Bill The Skeleton.

Tracy, a Butterfly Conservation worker and Steve, who recently retired from the NHS, then went on to complete the race.

Family and friends had gathered for the ceremony after walking to the location and the couple also received messages of congratulations by passing competitors.

Others took to social media afterwards to post their best wishes for the couple.

"Hope you enjoy many gears together," said one.

Another posted: "Wishing you many, long and happy adventures together. Along with the pitter patter of of tiny gear changes."

During the event, cyclists powered their way through the Ross-shire forest for 24 hours, pedalled through mud, snow and freezing temperatures.

The first Strathpuffer took place in 2005 but was not held during the coronavirus pandemic.

Last January's event was the first since 2020.
