Ian MacLaren from the Black Isle is completing a charity challenge to raise money for Prostate Scotland.

Ian, who will be 75 next month, is a renal patient and he, along with fellow Masons, are completing a “ride round Ross” to raise money for the life-saving charity.

Ian, who has been on dialysis for three years, cycles when he is in Raigmore Hospital’s Renal Unit while on dialysis.

He started his challenge on June 27 and, to date, has cycled 80km.

He hopes to break 100km very soon.

He said: “It’s a Scotland-wide challenge and we hope, collectively, to be able to raise £1 million for Prostate Scotland by the end of November.

“We’ve got about £900,00 so far.

“My aim is to break 100km by the end of this week which hopefully I can do.

“It’s for a good cause and I’m delighted to be able to do my bit.”

His effort has inspired a number of people to wish him well.

One wrote: “Such a great thing for Ian to be raising money and awareness of prostate cancer whilst he is undergoing dialysis.

“A remarkable man!”

Iain Macmillan wrote: “Amazing. I was on dialysis for three years and used the same cycle.

“It takes much, much more effort than when you don’t have renal failure.

“Funnily enough, my first dialysis was at Raigmore.

“It’s one of the better units I’ve been to, and I’m glad you’ve updated the dialysis machines.

And he added some sage words of advice: “Never die of embarrassment. See your doctor when things aren’t right.

“That’s what they’re there for.”
