Highland Council has granted planning permission for an agricultural building on the so-called greater Culloden Battlefield.
The National Trust for Scotland objected on the basis of the impact of the development on a protected area and the potential for development creep.
However, councillors on the south planning committee were swayed because it was a relatively small building, though some did worry about a precedent being set.
The site is located next to the hugely controversial residential development at Viewhill Meadows and within the Culloden Muir Conservation Area and the designated Inventory Battlefield site.
Historic Environment Scotland called for details of the building’s foundations and suitable archaeological work to determine if there are any remains or artefacts at the site.
