THE cruise ship season is now well under way and Inverness this week enjoyed one of the busiest days of the summer so far with 27 coaches ferrying hundreds of visitors into the city.

The occasion was the arrival at Invergordon of the Norwegian Star with 2500 passengers and 1000 crew on board.

Inverness BID Ambassadors Garry Munro and Jackie McDonald were kept busy ensuring the Ardross Street, coach drop-off and pick-up system ran smoothly - and it certainly did according to Maynes Coaches.

The Buckie based company said: "These two ambassadors are absolute gems, always waiting at Ardross Street with a smile and with the banter as well.

"Passengers always compliment them, keeping everything running smoothly. Much appreciated."

At first it was thought Wednesday was the busiest day of the season for coaches, but a quick check revealed June 9 saw 31 buses trundle into town.

That figure is still well shy of the Inverness cruise coach record pre-Covid of 54 buses, but there are some really large cruise boats heading for Invergordon soon.

Inverness BID said: "With our Ambassadors Garry and Jackie on duty everything went smoothly and the visitors received a warm Highland welcome.

"We have even bigger vessels due through Invergordon, such as the Emerald Princess with 3300 passengers on June 22 and the next day, the Costa Fortuna.

"It is all really positive."
