A crowdfunder has been launched in Australia to help bring two boys to the strath following the tragic death of their mother who had dreamed of showing them the world of her own childhood.

Nethy Bridge has been stunned at the news of Inga Amesbury’s passing aged just 45.

The daughter of Jim and Aileen MacEwan, she had emigrated to bring up her own family with husband Richard.

Rev MacEwan, now semi-retired minister at Abernethy, linked with Boat of Garten, Carrbridge and Kincardine, said that her death had come as a shock to all who loved her.

Speaking from Australia, he told the our sister paper the Strathy Herald: “We arrived back here early this morning to share in Inga’s funeral service next Monday, having only been home for a fortnight after a two month visit.

“Just before we flew home, Inga suffered a totally unexpected brain haemorrhage, and we left her receiving excellent treatment.

“We were given hope that she would make a slow recovery. Sadly, matters went the other way.”

He added: “We have been overwhelmed by support, prayers, and friendship in the last fortnight, not least the astonishing generosity of people both here and in Australia in connection with the appeal.

“We can only give our deepest thanks to all who are helping our grandsons visit the places and people their mother loved.

“We also greatly appreciate Nethy Bridge Church showing Inga’s (Zoomed) service on Monday, July 10 at noon, to which all friends are very welcome.”

Family friend Mark Dooley is organising the fundraising appeal on behalf of Mr Amesbury. He said: “Our beautiful friend Inga tragically passed away on Sunday, June 25 at the age of 45 leaving behind her husband Richard and two children, Max and Lewis.

“We are all absolutely devastated by the sudden and unexpected passing of our beloved friend Inga.

“Inga was well known and loved throughout the whole community and was always first to put up her hand to help others in need. We are asking for some help from Inga’s friends to help Richard during this difficult time.

“If you couldn’t tell by her thick accent, Inga grew up in Scotland. She never got the opportunity to show the boys where she grew up, so Richard would like to take them to Scotland to see Nethy Bridge and visit all of Inga’s friends and Scottish family.

“Any donation would be greatly appreciated and will go directly to Richard to help pay for Inga’s funeral and ongoing living expenses.”

A target of $30,000 has been set.
