A popular seasonal ferry linking the Black Isle and Easter Ross has returned to service after repairs to the engine.

Highland Ferries' Nigg-Cromarty service was temporarily suspended last week after a fault. At the time they warned potential passengers that repairs could take until midweek this week.

Those appear to have now been carried out, and in an update late yesterday afternoon, they took to social media to confirm the ferry – the Renfrew Rose – is back plying the waters of the Cromarty Firth.

A spokesman said: "That’s the Cromarty to Nigg ferry back operating a daily service until the end of September."

The ferry, which runs every summer from the start of June until the end of September, is popular with tourists, and also sits on one of the optional branches for National Cycle Route 1 – meaning the ferry's temporary absence will have forced long-distance cyclists to take the alternate route via Evanton, Alness, Scotsburn and Lamington.
