A crash has closed the A9 just south of Aviemore.

Traffic Scotland is reporting that the road is closed in both directions.

Emergency services are attending the scene following the accident, which occurred just before 2pm.

Traffic Scotland state: "The A9 is closed in both directions south of Aviemore due to a road traffic incident.

"Motorists are advised to use an alternative route at this time."

It is understood that traffic is being turned off at the Granish junction.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) said it received the call at 1.58pm and three appliances were dispatched to the scene – one from Aviemore, one from Carrbridge and one from Grantown-on-Spey.

SFRS was not able to provide information as to the number or type of vehicles that were involved in the crash.

Police Scotland has been contacted for further information.
