ONE of Inverness's bars is to close its doors as a result of coronavirus restrictions and further uncertainty – and will not reopen until next spring.

The Rose Street Foundry on Academy Street confirmed the news on social media shortly after 5pm this evening, sparking a flood of messages of support.

Confirming its temporary closure, the Rose Street Foundry team said: "It is with a very heavy heart that we have taken the decision to close our doors!

"With the most recent restrictions and anticipated future restrictions, it has become unviable for us to continue in this economic climate.

"This is not 'Last Orders' at Rose Street Foundry and we will be back better, stronger & wiser ready to start again in spring 2021!

"Thank you to everyone for your continued support in these most troubling times... stay safe, stay sane and stay positive," they added.

News of Rose Street Foundry's closure followed the earlier announcement by fellow city bar Number 27 that it will be closing for 16 days .

Although all Highland bars are permitted to remain open during the 16 days of tighter restrictions, and can serve alcoholic drinks outside until 10pm they are temporarily barred from serving any alcohol indoors. They can sell food and non-alcoholic drinks indoors but only until 6pm.

And Number 27 said that, without indoor alcohol sales, it had decided to close completely for the 16 day duration of the tighter restrictions which begin at 6pm on Friday.
