PARENTS of second year pupils waiting for Covid test at Inverness High School have been told not to return to class until they are told it is safe to do so.

In a caring text from head teacher John Rutter, he said he wanted the school community to be safe.

In the text send to parents, Mr Rutter said: "Thank you all for responding so well as we have sent your child home over the last few days.

"I know from personal experience how difficult it can be having to accommodate children who are self-isolating, especially as it comes on top of the worry of them possibly developing symptoms.

"Luckily, it does seem as if the majority of those who have gone home have not become seriously ill so far and I hope this will continue.

"However, because of the number of pupils who have tested positive for coronavirus in S2 and the number of close contacts they have had, the Health Protection Team have advised me that your children will not be able to return to school until they are certain it is safe for them to do so.

"They [the Health Protection Team] have the names of the children who are self-isolating and are checking PCR tests as they come in.

"This is what will lead them in making a decision about a return to school so, if you have not already booked a PCR test for your child, I would encourage you to do so as soon as possible and to let the shcool know the result when it comes back to you."

He added: "After what we have been through over the past 18 months, I know all this will be very disappointing and the further disruption to learning is incredibly frustrating for everyone.

"We do still have to be led by the health professionals to make sure we keep everybody in the community safe."

Highland Council has been invited to comment.
