AN outdoor nursery in the new community of Tornagrain has received a good rating for Covid safety following an unannounced visit by the Care Inspectorate in June.

“Good” is number four in a six-point scale where one is unsatisfactory and six is excellent.

Stramash Outdoor Nursery at Mid Coul Court provides daycare for up to 32 children aged two years to pre-primary.

The visit was a focused inspection to evaluate how well children were being supported during the pandemic.

Five parents/carers responded with their views on how the service had delivered care during the pandemic, and they were all positive about the care and support their child received and the experiences and opportunities provided for them to grow, flourish and develop.

Two parents made suggestions on how communication and the sharing of their child’s progress could be improved.

The inspection report stated: “The manager and staff understood and spoke knowledgeably and sensitively about the impact and challenges children and their families had encountered during lockdown.

“Through regular meaningful contact with parents and continuing to work collaboratively with other professionals and relevant agencies, they had helped to reduce the impact of any changes on children’s experiences and outcomes.

“Although support planning was taking full account of children’s emerging and changing needs, further work needed to be done to develop and consolidate children’s personal plans.

“The recently appointed manager was in full agreement that this area for improvement should be carried forward.”

Stramash was also urged to further minimise the risk of infection and cross-contamination by reviewing all cleaning and hygiene practices. This is with particular reference to the storage of staff coats and bags indoors, the dispensing of paper towels at hand-washing stations and the wiping down of lunch boxes at meal times.
