Two community councils are keen to welcome new recruits.

Nairn River Community Council, which saw a walk-out of six of its members last year, has already added to its ranks since then, but chairman Hamish Bain is still keen to co-opt new members who have a genuine interest in serving the local community.

Dr Alastair Noble, interim chairman of Nairn West Suburban Community Council, which has had three resignations in recent months, would also welcome new recruits.

“It’s a very exciting time to be involved in working for community council, with so much needing done in Nairn,” he said.

“Hopefully after the May Highland Council elections we will have a more open and transparent relationship with the new members so we can all work together in getting Nairn’s fair share of council spend and making Nairn the fantastic place to live that we all deserve.

Information on how to become a co-opted member of either body can be found on the community councils’ respective websites.
