Councillors will visit the site of a proposed bus link at Raigmore Hospital on Monday ahead of making a decision on the project.

The application, submitted by Highland Council and recommended for approval, is for a new section of road from Churchill Road and Ashton Road to link with the existing hospital road network, for use by buses and emergency vehicles only.

The bus gate was a planning condition for the new National Treatment Centre being developed at Inverness Campus although the requirement goes back to 2011 when planning permission in principle was granted for the original campus development.

Highland Council’s south planning applications committee will make a decision at its meeting on Tuesday, having deferred the matter last month to enable the site visit.

The aim is to improve local bus services, but the proposals have been opposed by nearby residents, citing the felling of mature trees, a detrimental impact on neighbours and a lack of consultation on the proposals.
