Highland Council asks public about plans to make 23 Inverness roads into 20mph zone

Highland Council wants feedback on its plans to make a large area of Inverness into a 20mph zone.

It has listed 23 roads which would be affected, including busy Kenneth Street and roads parallel to the River Ness and near Bught Park.

The local authority is inviting people to comment on a proposed 20mph traffic regulation order.

If the order comes into force, a 20mph speed limit will be introduced on the following roads over their entire length, unless stated otherwise:

  • Ardross Place (From its junction with Tomnahurich Street [A82] in an easterly direction to its junction with Kenneth Street)
  • Ardross Street
  • Ardross Terrace
  • Ballifeary Lane
  • Ballifeary Road
  • Bishops Park
  • Bishops Road
  • Bught Avenue
  • Bught Drive
  • Bught Lane
  • Bught Road
  • Cavell Gardens
  • Dunachton Road
  • Kenneth Street
  • Ness Bank
  • Ness Walk
  • Ness Walk Upper
  • Riverside Gardens
  • Springfield Court
  • Springfield Gardens
  • Torvean Avenue
  • Warrand Road
  • Wellingtonia Court

The consultation will run until September 19 and a drop-in session will be held at council headquarters in Glenurquhart Road on September 3 from 3pm-5pm for the public to speak with council officers.

A council spokeswoman said: "All representations regarding the proposal must be made in writing and must specify the reasons and should be delivered by September 19 to Sarah Duncan, solicitor, Highland Council Headquarters, Glenurquhart Road, Inverness IV3 5NX."
