AN Inverness primary school has revealed that Highland Council has advised school trips should be cancelled due to coronavirus.

More details are expected to be provided on Monday – and it is unclear whether this advice applies to just one school.

A statement posted on Cradlehall Primary School's website stated: "We have been advised by Highland Council that all excursions outwith the authority which have been planned for this current school year are to be cancelled owing to the Covid-19 [coronavirus] outbreak. More information will be provided to parents on Monday.

"Please be aware that it will take some time to clarify the nature and extent of the financial commitments already entered into with companies both in Edinburgh and The Netherlands. We will endeavour to arrange for the refund of as much of the sums already paid by parents/carers as speedily as possible.

"There will also be cancellations of a number of sporting and educational activities already planned for the remainder of the school year. To date Euro Quiz, and the McRobert Cup have both been cancelled by the organisers.

"We await further clarification from Highland Council on which other school events which have to be cancelled and will bring you news on this just as soon as we have the necessary information.

"While all of the above will no doubt be extremely disappointing to all who have looked forward to these events for such a long time, I’m sure everyone will understand the importance of following both local and national guidance in relation to the current Covid-19 pandemic."

Nobody was available to comment at the council.
