A NEW drive-through coronavirus testing facility will be located in a car park at Inverness College UHI.

Based at Inverness Campus it will operate on a pilot basis as an appointment-only facility for NHS staff and other key workers in the first instance.

Tests will be self-administered and a pilot will start on Sunday.

A spokesman for the college said: "Inverness College UHI has opened up one of its car parks on Inverness Campus to support the UK government in its efforts to increase testing for NHS and other key workers.

"A drive-through coronavirus testing facility will open in car park three on Sunday. It will be piloted for the first few days and operate on an appointment-only basis.

"As always, we would like to ask the public to avoid any unnecessary risk to people living and working on campus by ensuring they follow government guidance, particularly around social distancing."

Inverness already has a drive-through testing facility at Raigmore Hospital and a coronavirus assessment facility at the Mackenzie Centre in Culduthel Road.

The government is looking to rapidly expand the amount of testing across the country.
