Supply issues could delay completion of an active travel link on the outskirts of Inverness which aims to encourage more walking and cycling.

The Raigmore Active Travel Link, being constructed alongside the A9 northbound at the slip road towards the city centre, was expected to be completed by September 16.

But contractor Pat Munro has been faced with delays with the supply and delivery of the street furniture items which include benches, bollards, and directional signage.

There has also been a supply issue with the ekki hardwood cladding but it is hoped this can be resolved in the coming weeks.

The team is now awaiting updates from the suppliers on when the materials will be delivered to site.

Once this is confirmed, an update will be provided on the revised completion date.

Mark Smith, contracts manager at Pat Munro, said: "Having been on track with construction of the Raigmore Active Travel Link, it is disappointing to now face supply issues.

"We would like to apologise for the delays, especially to the residents of Raigmore who have been so supportive and understanding throughout the project, and we thank you for your continued patience."

A meeting of Raigmore Community Council was also told that 10 trees, including elm and ash, surrounding the construction site are dead and diseased and required to be felled upon completion of a bat survey.

If left, the trees pose a risk to those using nearby footpaths.

A number of new trees are being planted as part of the construction of the active travel link which will connect the existing Golden Bridge towards Inverness Campus with the Raigmore Interchange.

Updates about the project can be found at raigmoreactivetravellink.
