Roadworks in Inverness scheduled to end this morning have been extended overnight.

The delay in completing the £200,000 project means the Glenurquhart Road stretch of the A82 will be fully closed from 8pm tonight until 6am.

The closure is for resurfacing improvements being carried out by BEAR Scotland, on behalf of Transport Scotland, which began on Sunday, May 21.

A 640-metre stretch of worn-out carriageway is being renewed, with a signed diversion route in place overnight. Access from local roads onto the A82 will also be restricted.

Diversions include:

A82 northbound diversion – traffic will be diverted from the A82 at Torvean Roundabout onto General Booth Road/King Brude Road, then onto the A862 to A82 Telford Street Roundabout. Traffic will then continue to destination.

A82 southbound diversion – traffic will be diverted along the A82 to Telford Roundabout, then onto the A862 and turning into General Booth Road/King Brude Road, then onto A82 at Torvean Roundabout. Traffic will then continue to destination.

Access through the works site for local residents and emergency services will be maintained at all times.

Ian Stewart, BEAR Scotland’s north west representative, said: “These works on the A82 will help address defects and greatly improve the surface for motorists.

“The overnight closures are essential for the safety of road workers and motorists. We’ve taken steps to limit the overall impact of the project by carrying out the work overnight and by providing a signed diversion for traffic to follow.

“Our teams will do all they can to complete the works as quickly and safely as they can, and we thank the local community and road users for their patience in advance. We encourage motorists to plan ahead before setting out by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up-to-date travel information.”
