Frozen slush, black ice and fog made conditions for drivers, cyclists and pedestrians difficult this morning, with some residents going on social media to complain.

Edgemoor Park and Braeside Park were two areas singled out for mention that care was required due to black ice.

The A96 was also difficult between Inverness and Elgin, with several minor accidents.

A teenage cyclist had a heavy fall from his bike while cycling down Tower Brae as did a young girl at the Inverness College UHI campus traffic lights as she cycled towards Simpsons Garden Centre.

A Highland Council spokesman said: "We are experiencing widespread black ice today. We have all resources out treating as fast as we can. We are salting to melt the ice. We urge people to take extra care. Despite pre-gritting, very wet conditions followed by a rapid freeze caused ice in many areas this morning."
