A community garden being formed in Inverness is marking its official launch tomorrow with an open afternoon.

Holm Grown will see the transformation of an unused site next to Tesco Ness-side in Dores Road.

It involves a joint partnership between Holm Community Council and Incredible Edible Inverness which are inviting members of the public to visit the site between 2pm and 4pm to find out more.

There will be a barbecue and it is hoped the garden's first raised beds will also be in place.

The site was made available by Tesco and given to Highland Council for community use when the Ness-side store was first opened.

Community council chairman Murray McCheyne was pleased to see the project come together at last.

"The project, which has been designed by a group of volunteers, gained planning consent last month," he said.

"It is great to see a piece of land which has been sitting unused for nearly 10 years being put to such a worthwhile use for the benefit of our local community.

"The garden is to be constructed by volunteers and we hope it will serve both as a great community building project and as an inspiration to all as to what can be achieved in their own gardens and growing spaces.

"Lockdown has encouraged so many of us into our green spaces and with Covid 19 restrictions now thankfully starting to ease meaning we are now able to start community projects again the timing of this coming together is just right.

"We are excited that two of our local schools – Holm Primary and Inverness Royal Academy will be involved too.

"It is so exciting to how this will develop, presenting opportunities for all to be involved."
