More than 200 members of the community gathered to celebrate the opening of a newly refurbished play park recently.

All ages turned out for the reopening of Dalneigh Park last Saturday

Funds for the work carried out came from a series of community fundraisers, generous backing from local businesses and a £55,000 grant from Highland Council's community regeneration fund.

Local grandmother Liz MacIntyre, who helped with the fundraising, said of the opening: “The atmosphere was buzzing, the weather was amazing. It was so good seeing the community come together and enjoy the fabulous new facilities.

"I am very proud, it was an amazing day, I couldn’t have asked for anything better.

“The church had a gazebo and they were doing stress ball and mask making with the kids. High Life Highland turned out and they were doing badge making, Bookbugs and outdoor games with the children.

"We had face painting and kids tattoos and sweeties, crisps and juices. Everything was free; they could put in a donation if they wanted to.

“It has given young kids something to do because the old park was so run down and there wasn’t another play park in the area, so it has given them something to do and to enjoy, allowing them to let off some steam.

"The equipment is really inclusive, exciting and accessible. It means a lot for all the kids and the community, that is for sure.”

Plans for a second phase of development at the park, aimed at older children, are being considered for the future.
