Following the Springfield Scottish Squash Open in Inverness last year, Inverness Tennis and Squash Club (ITSC) has been selected by Team Scotland to host the first Scottish stage of the Queen’s Baton Relay for the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games.

The project will be delivered locally by ITSC with support from a range of partners including Scottish Squash and High Life Highland.

It is just under 80 days until the 2022 Commonwealth Games opening ceremony in Birmingham, which is always preceded by the famous Queen’s Baton Relay.

The historic relay visits all 72 nations and territories of the Commonwealth in the build up to the games. The first relay took place in 1958.

The 2022 relay began in October 2021, with over half of the Commonwealth countries visited so far. The Scottish leg starts on June 18 in Inverness, travelling down the Caledonian Way before visiting Arran on Day Two.

A spokesman said: "The baton will then travel through Ayrshire and Glasgow on Day Three and Edinburgh on Day Four, before finishing in the Borders and Dumfries on Day Five. The relay will visit sports clubs, schools and other landmarks on its five-day journey through Scotland."
