A driver from Wester Ross got behind the wheel while he was 24 times above the legal limit for a cocaine derivative in his system.

Inverness Sheriff Court was told that Johnathan MacGregor, of the Shack, Shieldaig, was stopped by police in Telford Gardens, Inverness, at 2am on May 30 last year because his boot was open.

Officers initially thought the 33-year-old was drunk, but an alcohol test proved negative.

Sheriff Gordon Fleetwood was told that a blood sample was taken to test for drugs and the reading returned showed the presence of 1200mcgs of Benzoylecgonine. The limit to drive is 50mcgs.

Sentence was deferred until August 5 for a background report.
