HIGHLAND Hospice is more than £3000 better off thanks to a united fundraising effort by Co-op stores across the Highlands.

Shop staff from across the north gathered at the Co-op store in Telford Street, Inverness last week to hand over a cheque for £3182.70.

The cash was raised by members of staff from 18 stores around the region who had collectively hosted a weekend of fundraising earlier this year.

As well as taking part in a Wear Yellow Day to raise awareness of the hospice and its important work they also hosted a range of raffles, cake sales and tombolas.

Highland Hospice, based at Ness House in Inverness, provides specialist palliative care to those living in the Highlands who have life limiting illnesses.

It also provides support to families, loved ones and carers.

Co-op area manager, Daniel Simpson, said: “Highland Hospice is a cause close to many of our hearts and its work has an incredibly positive impact on the lives of so many people experiencing difficult times.

“I know that our store teams had a lot of fun carrying out their fundraising and we’d like to say a big thank you to our loyal customers who have supported us so enthusiastically.”

Lisa Long, corporate fundraiser at Highland Hospice, said: “We are thrilled to accept this extremely generous donation from the Co-op – our organisation needs thousands of pounds every day just to support the delivery of services across the Highlands and these funds are essential in helping us to ensure that we are there for those who need us most.”

Speaking directly to fundraisers she added: “The kindness of Co-op colleagues and customers is hugely appreciated by everyone at the hospice who knows how hard you’ve worked to raise these funds especially for us.”
