A squad of American football players have had their heads shaved to support a team-mate and raise money for charity.

Ally Gibson (23) was diagnosed with stage four Hodgkin’s lymphoma in January, despite being a healthy young man who does not drink alcohol or smoke.

He is a member of the Highland Stags, he began as a successful player for the team before becoming a coach.

And as he lost his hair, 15 of his fellow players and coaches and players decided to have their heads shaved as a sign of solidarity.

It was at Carsegate Barbers last Sunday.

It was the idea of Haris Ryalls, who said that it was originally going to be him and team-mate Colin Hamilton who were going to lose their hair.

He added: “Ally was going to lose his hair because he’s going through chemotherapy. We said if he’s losing his hair, we will shave our heads.”

However, as word spread, more players and coaches joined them and so far they have raised more than £2700 for Maggie’s Highlands cancer support charity.

He said: “It was really good. We had two of the barbers to cut our hair for us, two at a time, and Ally, his sister and mum came down to support us.”
