A 'climate strike' planned for this Friday in Inverness has been cancelled.

The event that was being organised by Scottish Youth Climate Strike (SYCS), an Inverness youth climate group, would have seen a day of action in the city centre.

But, after advice from the police, the group have made the decision to cancel the event.

The group are encouraging people to walk out and use the hashtag #buildbackbetterscot on social media posts.

In a statement from SYCS, a spokesperson said: "After contacting the police, we have come to the decision that we will no longer able to take part in the global day of action in person on Friday September 25.

"We will continue to walk out – but will not gather – and will instead be posting pictures using the hashtag #buildbackbetterscot for a just and green recovery in Scotland.

"We encourage you to take part in this too and hopefully next time we will see you all in person again."
