Residents in an Inverness street have seen their homes turned blue in tribute to NHS staff.

The eye-catching effect was created by lighting technician Rory Kay of Holm Farm Road.

The 34-year-old is part of the team at Eden Court Theatre but also works freelance at events such as festivals and weddings.

“Obviously there is no work at the moment,” he said. “I like being able to be artistic if I can and I have a lot of my own equipment. I thought it would be great if I could use it to light up the street.

His partner, Milla McIntosh, works for the NHS as a breastfeeding peer support worker at Raigmore Hospital.

“Everyone who we could get easily and quickly was very supportive about the idea and so we ran with it,” said Mr Kay, who managed to arrange the lights in front of about eight houses.

Several neighbours were happy to have their homes lit up for the tribute.

“It got to the point where I ran out of cables and lights.”

The full effect became apparent as it became dark.

“So many people came out at that point to see what it looked like,” Mr Kay said, stressing that social distancing rules were observed throughout.

“I will happily do it again, if people want,” he said. “I don’t want to impose it on them.”
