Rogerson Shoes moved to the Eastgate Shopping Centre just weeks before the coronavirus lockdown started.

Manager Victoria Roberts said the move from Union Street in February had been the right one, as they were now in a more prominent location.

She said: “It’s made a difference moving up here – some people had never heard of us before.”

The shop is part of a Scottish company which has 13 branches including in Edinburgh and the Borders.

Mrs Roberts said it was good to have been able to reopen their new shop and added: “The staff and myself were raring to go. We’ve got everything in place to make it safe.”

She said staff were now noticing the number of customers visiting the shop was increasing.

“There is a change in the way that people are shopping – they are doing multiple purchases on their trip.

“When you talk to customers you realise just how confident they are. They are becoming more confident with measures that are in place and are more confident going shopping.”
