Inverness College UHI has closed its doors to students, staff or members of the public until February 8.

The move comes in the wake of First Minister Nicola Sturgeon's announcement on Tuesday about a national lockdown for Scotland following a review of national, regional and local Covid-19 data.

All college programmes have been moved to remote delivery and, as well as the Inverness campus, the closure also applies to the Scottish School of Forestry.

In a Facebook post the development was yesterday described by a spokesman as a "difficult decision".

The post added: "The vast majority of our courses were already planned to be delivered remotely and will not be affected.

"We are sorry that we have had to come to this decision at the start of a new year, but the current course of this pandemic represents a very serious threat to our region and we have a responsibility to protect our communities."

The Early Learning and Childcare Centre on the Inverness campus is also closed – except for children designated as vulnerable and those of key workers.
