A Nairn bar has been named as the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) Highlands and Western Islands pub of the year.

The Bandstand Bar and Restaurant scooped the award again, having previously won it in 2020.

The bar is described as a popular and lively community hub, which hosts live music and two annual beer festivals.

The Bandstand is the first venture into the hospitality trade for owners Paul and Lyndy Geddes, who have been there for three years.

Mr Geddes said: “I’m absolutely honoured that the Bandstand has won this award again. Being able to compete against the finest pubs across the north of Scotland makes me so incredibly proud.”

The owners have braved the difficulties of the pandemic and are looking forward to more “normal” times ahead.

They are now very excited about competing in CAMRA’s National Pub of the Year against the best pubs in the country.

Mr Geddes said: “I want to say a massive thank you to our loyal customers, old and new, from near and far, who have supported our efforts to develop the business and the changes we’ve made as part of our commitment to the business and our community.”

“Also, to our fantastic team who have worked tirelessly to serve up great beer and food in an environment that our customers love”.

CAMRA Highlands and Western Isles chairman Jim Hall said: “We congratulate The Bandstand for retaining their position as the CAMRA best pub in the Highlands and Western Isles. The Bandstand boasts an excellent range of cask ales, and we’re pleased to see such a wide and quality offering in the Highlands.”

As well as the next stage of the Pub of the Year competition, the team at the Bandstand are also preparing for a busy summer season including the 14th annual Beer and Music Festival taking place from June 1-6.
