A HIGHLAND charity’s roll-out of state-of-the-art technology has been hailed as a “game-changer” by unpaid carers and professionals across the region.

Dingwall-based Connecting Carers has invested heavily in the latest technology, creating a new website with an integrated app and a custom database.

The upgrade allows carers to access and interact with all their essential documents, book events, access a live chat function where they can ask and receive advice instantly, and a wealth of other resources.

Chief executive Roisin Connolly said: “Launching our fantastic new website and app as part of our 30th year celebration represents how carers’ needs have evolved over the decades and how the organisation has adapted to those needs.”

Anne Searles, a carer from Muir of Ord, added: “The website’s really good and I really like the design. It’s a big improvement on the old website.

“It’s really comprehensive and has so much info in it. The chat function’s a real boon as it lets me interact instantly with my link workers.

“It’s also wonderful that, by using it, I can access everything I need as a carer, and the events section is fantastic. I’m so happy to see the organisation embracing the latest technology.”

Graham Smith, from website developers Hicreate, said: “The new Connecting Carers website was carefully planned to meet the specific requirements of the organisation and its users – the many unpaid carers across Highlands.

“To be as accessible as possible to carers of all ages and technical abilities the site was also created from the outset as a mobile web application, giving carers the option of quick access from their mobile device to the information and services they use most often.”

Karen, a carer from Caithness, said: “It’s easy to use, easy to navigate and all the information I needed was there.”

Barbara Brown, from Connecting Young Carers, said: “Over time we will launch a dedicated page for short training and information videos that can be used by professionals to improve their knowledge. We will build on our events and blog too – watch this space!”
