Highland News and Media staff challenge Police Scotland Moray in charity match for Macmillan Cancer Support
IN Spain they call it El Clasico, in Scotland it is the Old Firm derby, but there is a classic football clash on the horizon in Moray involving staff of the Inverness Courier.
The silky skills on display may be of a more dubious nature and it may be more an infirm derby, but endeavour and determination will be in abundance.
And the real winner at the end of the day will be a charity that supports people and their families going through a cancer journey.
The Inverness Courier and other colleagues from Highland News and Media in Moray are joining forces to lay down a challenge to Police Scotland Moray.
A charity football match will grace the green grass of Borough Briggs, home of Elgin City, on Sunday, May 1.
A Highland News and Media select will take on the seasoned performers from the ranks of the local police, who are regular competitors.
This is a first ever outing for the HNM team, so it is a leap into the unknown for the media pack - however, they have been training for the occasion.
Macmillan is HNM's charity of the year and this will bring the curtain down on fundraising efforts locally.
The game will kick off at 3pm on the Sunday, with the gates opening from 2pm, by kind permission of SPFL Cinch League Two club Elgin City.
Also on the day there will be a raffle, bottle stall and cake and candy, as well as a beat the goalie competition at half-time.
Elgin and District Pipe Band and guests will be playing before the game and at half-time.
The Elgin City Supporters Club will be opening their pie shop for the afternoon and there will also be a chance for supporters to have a relaxed drink before and after the game.
Entry will be by donation, which can either be in cash in the collecting buckets at the gate or by contactless card or QR code donation for anyone not keen on handling cash.
Any contributions of raffle prizes, bottles or cake and candy would be most welcome at the offices of The Northern Scot, and can be handed in Monday to Friday, 9.30am to 2.30pm.
