Jennifer Price (31) began cycling from Land's End to John O'Groats on May 7, and made her way through the Highland capital yesterday.

She is raising fund for the Veterans' Foundation with the 1000-mile cycle, just one part of her year of challenges.

Ms Price said: “From a physical perspective and looking at my cycling totals over the last few months, I’m completely and utterly insane!”

She wants to help the charity as she has seen many friends struggle with mental health after leaving the armed forces, which she was a part of for 10 years.

"It is rare to go through life without experiencing personal trauma of some sort, whether that has been on the battlefield or in your personal life,” Ms Price explained.

"I am a firm believer that trauma should not define you but can be harnessed to motivate you in endlessly positive ways, and it is never too late to get back on track."

Ms Price has already completed a 50km ski marathon, 64kmm Jurassic Coast ultra marathon, Paris marathon and the 125-mile Devizes to Westminster canoe race, which she said was a challenge.

She added: "I know I’m going to face more pain on the way to the end of these challenges, but I’m determined to see it through to support the Veterans’ Foundation and fund projects for veterans facing mental health challenges.”

Every penny donated will go to helping British Armed Forces personnel in need and Major General David Shaw, chief executive and founder of the Veterans’ Foundation, has been thrilled to see Jen’s success so far.

He said: “We wish Jen the best of luck in her remaining challenges – she’s done an incredible job already.”

Before reaching Inverness, she met up with 19-year-old Guy Gower who is also covering the huge distance on bike.

He suffered from cardiac arrest last year and is raising money for the British Heart Foundation.
