Highland musicians are banding together to support a Beauly mum’s campaign to pay for potentially lifesaving cancer treatment.

The “Rocking for Roz” concert in aid of Roz Paterson (52) is being held at Inverness Leisure on Friday, February 22, and features a host of local bands including Scooty and The Skyhooks and Torridon as well as the Highland Voices gospel choir and others yet to be announced.

Mrs Paterson, who has a rare form of blood cancer which has failed to respond to four rounds of chemotherapy, is aiming to raise £500,000 for pioneering treatment in the USA and was delighted when she heard about the concert.

“I’m bowled over by the scale and ambition of this event, and by the time and talent given by these musicians to help fund my life-saving treatment,” she said.

“For me this has been the worst of times, but also the best of times. To feel the support and energy and raw, human goodness of so many people – wow! I’m sure it’s a cancer-fighting drug in itself. I’m sure it will be a fantastic night, and I want to say thank you to everyone involved.”

The concert is being organised by a consortium of local businesses all working in the music industry locally.

A spokesperson said: “The event is about bringing together the local community to enjoy an evening of music and dance from some of the best artists from the north of Scotland, whilst raising vital funds for Mrs Paterson.

“Please, please come and join us and support Roz’s appeal.”

The concert is just the latest fundraising effort by the local community on behalf of Mrs Paterson.

A charity single is in the works courtesy of her husband Malcolm’s band The Prime Evils while Beauly Primary School held a fundraising pyjama day and baker Harry Gow donated proceeds from four days worth of sales of vanilla cupcakes at its Beauly store to the cause.

Inverness actress Karen Gillan has also shown her support for the effort online and Dingwall Auction Mart is to stage a “Raising for Roz” auction from 10am-2pm on Saturday, February 2.

For that event auction items will be listed in advance on the mart website.

For the concert tickets priced £20 go on sale on Monday at 10am and will be available from Ticketline as well as Cafferys Menswear in the Eastgate Shopping Centre, Inverness and Morisons the Ironmonger in Beauly.
