Ten charities have received funding from the summer ceilidhs held in Nairn Community & Arts Centre.

The £2400 disbursed by the Nairn Ceilidh Group brings the total funding since they first began at the Washington Hotel in 1987 to over £75,000.

There were no ceilidhs in 2020 or 2021 due to the Covid pandemic but they bounced back with a bang in 2022.

“We didn’t know quite what to expect,” said chairman Donald Wilson.

“But we have a very loyal local fan base who again turned up in good numbers and, supplemented by visitors, attendances were well up to the mark of previous seasons.

“We held eight ceilidhs instead of 11 during the summer and that’s a format we may stick to as the ceilidhs during school term in June are not so well attended.

“We are again forever grateful to all the musicians the Elizabeth Fraser School of Dance and young pipers who give their time freely to make the ceilidhs possible.

“On the final night before Games Day the Community Centre staff had all hands on deck providing extra tables and every chair available so that gave us a great ending to the season.”

The group this year donated £400 towards aid for Ukranian families impacted by the war in their homeland.

“We also invited all Ukranian families and their hosts in Nairn along to ceilidhs as our guests and I think they greatly appreciated the gesture,” said Donald.

The other charities to benefit from funding were: Nairn Museum, Nairn & District Gardening Club, Nairn Arts Society, Let’s Get On With It, Nairn Play, Listen Well Scotland, Junior World Playgroup, Queenspark Residents Group, Nairn County FC (Youth development programme).
