A hallmark business event for the region returns to an in-person gala dinner on Friday, September 9 for the first time since 2019.

Hosted by the Drumossie Hotel, Inverness, the Scottish Council for Development and Industry Business Excellence Awards should be bigger than ever.

With the cream of Highland business keen to get together to celebrate each other’s achievements, and of course, enjoy an evening of good food, good company and good entertainment.

This year’s awards will be hosted by impressionist Rory Bremner.

The self-proclaimed stand-up ‘chameleon’ will no doubt raise the roof with his no holds barred satirical take on the political landscape. Rory will join the long list of top-class hosts and speakers to grace the glittering awards such as Alistair McGowan, Marcus Brigstocke, Ruby Wax and Milton Jones.

The awards will celebrate businesses across eight categories, each specifically designed to highlight the success stories of organisations in the Highlands and Islands and share the challenges they have overcome to benefit their local communities and the wider economy. Categories are:

n Alvance Aluminium award for outstanding business leader

n Bakkafrost Scotland award for outstanding island business

n Benromach award for excellence in international business

n Crown Estate Scotland award for outstanding supporter of coastal communities

n Highlands and Islands Enterprise award for excellence in fair work practices leading to workplace innovation

n The Highland Council award for purposeful business

n Loganair award for excellence in customer service, care and experience

n The Stromar Award for excellence in natural capital, climate change and sustainable communities

Maria Campbell, SCDI’s director of membership and stakeholder engagement highlighted the importance of the awards, saying: “There are many exceptional organisations working in and across the Highlands and Islands and these awards rightly recognise them for their contribution to Scotland’s economy.

“The event also provides the region with a unique networking opportunity, bringing together representatives from international trade, offshore wind and green technology, research, innovation and sustainability at one of the most hotly anticipated business events of the year.”

Judging of the awards will commence shortly, with a fantastic range of varied businesses having already entered. The judging will carefully examine all the entries and consider the great work businesses are doing to improve the wellbeing of their staff, and the community and the steps they are taking to tackle wider societal issues. There are only a few weeks to go, so book one of the few remaining tables now and join SCDI and sponsors to celebrate business excellence in the Highlands and Islands.
