A TREE donated by the Lord Lieutenant of Nairn in recognition of Cawdor efforts to celebrate the coronation in May has been planted in a local wood.

The ceremony at the Jubilee Wood was attended by community group representatives and pupils from Cawdor Primary School who were welcomed by Lord Cawdor and Lord Lieutenant George Asher.

All Lord Lieutenants were allocated funds from the Queen’s Green Canopy Initiative – established last year – for tree plantings to mark the coronation of King Charles III.

Lord Cawdor said a horse chestnut had been chosen as a symbol of endurance.

The Lord Lieutenant said: “We were delighted to see members of the community and school pupils helping plant the tree.

“The king is keen to get as many trees across communities to look after the environment. It’s something that will benefit future generations when the results come to fruition.”

Lizzy Rose, from Cawdor and West Nairnshire Community Group, said: “The tree will be part of a legacy for future generations and is appropriately sited within the Jubilee Wood, planted last year by community volunteers and Cawdor pupils to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.”
