Goods donated by individuals and businesses, including clothing, toys and sanitary products, were laid out for people to take as they needed, allowing people to obtain necessities they may not be able to afford in a judgment-free zone.

Members of the inSpire Project were pleased with the day and were on hand to assist with any queries.

Provost of Inverness Cathedral, Sarah Murray, said: “The inSpire Project has been up and running for around five years, starting by taking requests over the phone or via social media and then providing school uniforms and winter jackets. Within a few years the project developed to what is now offered and we continue to respond to the needs of our community.

“This year with the increase in fuel costs and the possibility of families having to choose between heating and eating we have introduced blankets and hot water bottles to the items we offer.

“We work with different organisations to provide school uniforms, winter jackets, toiletries and, periodically, gifts and toys to assist with birthdays and Christmas. Everything we have available is set out for people to come in a choose what they need. The day was very well supported with people from our community coming in for blankets and hot water bottles. We welcomed over 25 people and are here to help with any needs that arise for families week by week.

“The name ‘inSpire’ comes from the cathedral building and the fact that the building didn’t get the planned spires. It is a twist on this and we hope that what we do inspire people who come looking for some help that there are people who care and are here to help.

“Our project coordinator, Sandra, is available to assist and, with a fabulous team of volunteers, make a huge difference. We recognise the challenges many families face and offer a no-questions-asked support for children. We really appreciate the volunteers who give up their time and generous spirit of a warm welcome to all coming to our door.”
