CHORAL music from 17th and 18th century Italy is being brought to the Highlands for a very special occasion by an ensemble marking a milestone.

Musick Fyne under their director D James Ross recently celebrated their 40th anniversary.

For most of this period they have been giving regular choral concerts at Inverness and Dornoch Cathedrals.

On Sunday June 4 at 3pm, as part of the Cake & Concert series, they return to Inverness Cathedral. And on Thursday, June 8 June at 8pm they will be visiting Dornoch Cathedral with a programme of music for voices and instruments from 17th- and 18th-century Italy.

Teeing up the performances, Musick Fyne said: "Familiar music by Vivaldi rubs shoulders with a neglected masterpiece by Ciaia, and the programme features two fine soloists from the choir, soprano Aileen Cuthbert and alto Morag Ainslie. The choral music will be interspersed with sympathetic instrumental music."

Admission programmes priced at £10 each go on sale at the door from an hour before the performances and all proceeds are shared between the venues and Highland Hospice.

The Highland ensemble added: "We look forward to welcoming you once again to these wonderfully atmospheric venues for what promises to be a memorable and moving musical experience."
