An Inverness mental health charity is more than £1000 better off thanks to a Highland branch of a major supermarket.

June Ross, the customer champion at Morrisons in Alness, has presented a cheque for £1030 to Patrick Mullery from James Support Group.

The charity offers support to anyone affected by suicide, whether suffering suicidal thoughts or struggling with the death of a loved one who took their own life.

Mr Mullery, together with his wife Wendy, set it up in memory of their son James, who took his own life.

He said his wife made all sorts of craft items – including bracelets, ear rings, Christmas cards, knitted dogs, baby blankets and key rings – to raise funds for the charity and they were displayed in store over a few days for donations to the cause.

“There are many generous people in Alness, and we managed to raise a total of £1030 between us,” he said.

“We also auctioned off a Ross County ceramic teddy, but I can’t reveal the winner as it’s a surprise.”

The group regularly holds meetings at the Mercure Hotel in Inverness, and organisers want to expand these services into other areas including Thurso, Nairn, Aviemore and Invergordon.
