A new driver drove into the path of a motor-cyclist at a busy Inverness city centre crossroads and collided with him.

There were no serious injuries but 22 year old Lucy Russell of Bohuntinville Road, Roy Bridge was charged by police with careless driving.

Inverness Sheriff Court heard that the collision took place at the Ness Bridge on November 10 last year as Russell emerged from Bank Street on to the bridge.

But fiscal depute Karen Poke told Sheriff Eilidh Macdonald that a motorbike was coming out of Castle Road travelling straight on.

Defending, John MacColl said: "She was moving very slowly but the motorbike appears to be going too fast."

Fining Russell £420 and endorsing her licence with six penalty points, Sheriff Eilidh Macdonald said: "It was a momentary error of judgement but a significant one. I am not accepting that the motorcycle was responsible for this accident."
